I am the daughter of an army man. He belonged to the 11th Airborne during World War II. I recently attended a dinner commemorating the 53rd anniversary of the Los Banos operation on Luzon, Philippines in 1945 with my dad. Many men attended but fewer and fewer each year as they are getting up there in age. I was truly moved by this experience as I had no idea being "a child of the sixties" how brave these men were and how much they were willing to sacrifice for their families and their country. They read poetry and told stories of the courageous rescue operation.

Before too much time passes I would like to find a way to give these men their 15 minutes of glory and the recognition they really never received. This operation was overshadowed by Iwo Jima. I have decided that I would like to do a web site devoted to them, recounting their stories and showing their pictures.

Athough these brave souls are not familiar with the far reaching effects of the Web and its impact, their children are and this could be a lasting memorial to the men who have fought so valiantly. I would appreciate any help or advice you could be willing to give me in locating the other men in this outfit. Sincerely, Mona Radlow

This is not a personal story, but is one my dad told me. Thought it might interest you. In my "Webcurrents" column of April 14, 1998 at http://www.webcurrent.com/currents.html

MESSAGES

The following are messages I've received from people looking for information. Your help is appreciated!

Searching for relative

I am looking for records of my grandma's uncle. We believe he served in World War II. His name is Jesus Loya. If anyone knows how I could search for these records please contact me at my e-mail address: riolague@utep.edu. Thank you!

I was at my grandparent's house earlier this evening, talking about their childhoods. My grandfather was answering my question of having any relatives in the World War's and he mentioned his brother, Austin Shephard. Austin went by the name Jack. He was in the air force and flying a mission from England to France and since then he has been missing. He was an aerial gunner on one of the popular bombers, the ones with the bubbles in the top and bottom for the gunners.

My grandfather said that his mother saw a picture in the paper, a little while after Jack's gone missing, and went to the Red Cross for information on it. It was at a French P.O.W. camp, with a man in a uniform, blurry face and only one arm. The Canadian Air Force said that the whole crew of that bomber was never found. I am hoping to find out what happened to my great uncle because it is very important to my grandfather ,and now to me also. If anyone has any information about this particular mission please e-mail me at bwielgosz@sprint.ca.

Thank You, Grant Wielgosz
